.CA Domain Names
As a rule, all Canadian-based online business organizations have to
acquire a domain name or website address with the suffix ".ca" on it.
".ca" domain names would mean that the location of the domain is in
Canada. Canada has established strict rules in domain name registration
partly because it has seen the economic value of online business
entities for the country. The rules are also imposed to prevent
commercial-related domain anomalies from occurring. After all, the
possibility for irregularities in business domain transactions would be
higher if there are no guidelines to serve as safety nets in the online
business industry.
The first provision in the registration of .ca domain names is the
formal submission of to-be released domain names in CIRA's (Canadian
Internet Registration Authority) website. The second provision in .ca
registrations is that CIRA has the sole authority to cancel a domain
name application. There are three possible reasons for the cancellation
of an application. One reason would be the failure of the applicant to
comply and submit pre-registeration documents. Another reason would be
the applicant's utilization of the agency's networking resources without
proper permission or authorization. Finally, the third reason involves
the possible conflict of CIRA policy administration that may arise, due
to the processing of the application.
Once the domain name has been approved by CIRA, the domain name would
immediately be listed in CIRA's records. For registered domain names
that have expired or have been cancelled, CIRA would notify all the
accredited agencies about it through an email. It would also announce
the date when the expired domain names would be available for
registration again.
