Registering a
Domain Name
Basically a form of an online calling card, a domain name is one's
business name and address in the internet. The domain name has four
elements: a server prefix, the name of the domain, the suffix of the
domain, and the optional country code. These details all contribute to
the recall and overall appeal of the domain name.
Registering a domain name is easy if one has an established business.
One only needs to open an online website with his existing business
name. If one is just starting up the business, he may have to decide on
a name that best describes service or products.
Once the person has settled on the name of your website address and
other alternatives, registering the name of your domain with accredited
agencies or registrars is advised. The InterNIC (Internet Network
Information Center) website has a record of authorized agencies of ICANN-accredited
(Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers) registrars.
Through their websites, one may locate possible registrars for your
domain name. Once the person has selected a registrar, one may check
whether the preferred web name and address are already registered or
not. If the results state that the name and address have not been
registered yet, the person may then turn to the conditions for
registering a domain name.
The registration has an expiration date and the registered domain name
may be good from one to ten years, depending on the terms and conditions
of agreement. Registration costs would also be based on the package that
each registrar offers. Certain additional services and promotional
offers also add to the registration cost, should the person decide to
avail these.
